Joe Biden can walk and talk at same time, look out below for awhile?

Market Talk

Joe Biden can speak.  He has been coming out of his basement and showing that he can walk and talk at the same time.
For those that have hatred for President Trump this bolsters the democrats hope.  The bar has been set low for  Biden thus far and as Trump haters say well at least Biden can speak and think so he's better than Trump,  the market may start anticipating that Biden may actually win and democrats sieze power.

If the Democrats do win, look out below as far as the market. High taxes and state bailouts to pay for mismanagement and such high debt  items such as state pensioners that drive typical democrat states like NJ and New York and California  into unsustainable debt.

The market is not ready for socialism and the burdening costs and taxes that it will require.  The market will not want America to be like Venezuela.

With the above preamble it seems like the run the market has had may stall and even falter as uncertainty about the election plays out and political positioning stall cooperation.  The vision for the  future of America is in the balance on Nov 3.

With regard to the market?   Look out below for awhile?

Market Talk: " Keep some powder dry"

Market Talk

The last time I posted Market Talk I pointed out stocks markets are near all time highs. This point is back to me as we watch current events and the state of the world today.

Regarding the market, the one thing that has spurred the rally is that we did not go into a depression from the Corona pandemic. And what fueled that is unemployment and PPP relief.  However, now there is much division and politics stalling new rounds as the economy and jobs are stalled in the on going pandemic, layoffs and total unrest, protest and looting in many cities.

The election nears and uncertainty prevails.  This prelude leaves me with a feeling that a stock market correction may be sooner than later.

I do not make recommendations here.  I can only say what they say when it seems like it may be time to hunker down.  Keep some powder dry.

Stock Talk: Trading vs Investing: "Go long" with Walmart and Apple?

Stock Talk

Trading Inovio:  After Inovio stock got whipsawed from the 20's into the teens, I changed my view from a long stock to a trading stock.  I  posted the new view last month and trimmed some shares with each whipsaw lower.  When the company failed to answer the short seller critiques red flags got raised.  Waiting on a "peer review" that kept being put off while other's in the vaccine race advance into Phase 3 trials has caused INO to be slammed into the $10 range today.  At some point, the market speaks loudly and perhaps that point is today. I am out of Inovio and let it go for now.

Walmart (WMT) The news of a $98 a year subscription and free delivery service to compete with Amazon.   It seems that Walmart has solidified it's position in this Corona world and may be stepping up to the challenges that Amazon presents.I started a small position in Walmart. One thing about Walmart is that there is a store within 10 miles of most everyone.  The grocery delivery aspect of the $98 subscription service could really take hold and grow Walmart into being a very real competitor with Amazon.  I think Amazon needs some competition by an entity that continues having a store front in America.

Perhaps a few some shares of Walmart and Apple will take hold and be the long shares for the future.

Market and Stock views on Inovio, Gold, Apple and Walmart !

Market Talk

Today, the stock markets are near all time highs. There are lot's of reasons ranging from rational to irrationality.  I feel the need to point this out because the Presidential election is just 62 days away.  I will not go into a political discourse of my own views.  Except it is possible that a sea change is coming if the democrats take control.  And such change may well affect the stock market in a negative or corrective way.  This makes me somewhat tempered with regards to stocks at all time highs.  There is one thing I have learned about the market and stocks - something always happens.

With the above  prelude,  I will now venture some quick takes on a few stocks I am watching.

Stock Talk

Inovio:  I watch this stock, we all know that. Partly because I remain gobsmacked that the Operation Warp Speed (ows) team has not  yet embraced Inovio's INO4800 Covid 19 vaccine . I have posted here about what seem like some serious advantages INO4800 over some of the others that have been given priority and Billion dollar funding.

Yes, the DOD has selected Inovio's cellectra devices for administering vaccines and has arranged for their private vaccine manufacturer to work with Inovio.  But the $71 Million buy in for Cellectras pales in the face of billions to others. To the market, it all seems like secret deals with vague reference to Inovio.  Where as the other Pharma have pounded tables on attributes, gained funding and are already advancing in Phase 3 clinical trials. Meanwhile Inovio awaits on a "peer review" of Phase 1 preliminary results.  I have posted my view of how I believe INO4800 works in a safe and effective way from what I can glean from reports.

As the market  has slammed the stock from the 33 range back to the 11ish range as of this post, it sure has taken a beating. Will Inovio be over taken by events (obe) or will it rise from the ashes like  the Phoenix?  It all depends.  In the meantime, Inovio longs are suffering. Others are looking at it thinking of taking a position. At present, INO seems like a conundrum stock that may yet be a phoenix.  It may also be a waiting on Godot situation and could be obe.  "It all depends."  and  "something always happens". That's a way of saying "beats me".

Gold mining stocks

With the current events of the world,  I have been buying a few shares of Yamana Gold (AUY) in the 6 ish range. I should note that Gold and silver are already at traditional highs and these metals may be peaking.  However, gold and silver enthusiasts believe that paper money will lose to inflation.  As far as the US dollar goes, I am not completely convinced even with all the trillions spent to prevent a depression.  Why you may ask?  Well, what about the trillions spent on war in the middle east? The US dollar survived on the faith of the US government and the God we trust.

I was looking at Barrick Gold mining stock (GOLD) as I hear Warren Buffet recently took on a big stake.  However, as I am looking I see a news item that Barrick Gold is losing rights to mining a 600,000 ounce per year gold mine in Papua New Guinea.  I don't see how that can be a good thing for Barrick mining.  This points out a risk in gold mining stocks in general that mine is various parts of the world.  This is something to watch.

Two Recent Strong movers:

Apple (APPL)  Stock continues it's run after the split.  Many say after a stock splits it may correct for awhile after the buzz fades.  I bought a few shares of Apple before the 4 for 1 split. I emphasize just a few said the peasant.

Walmart (WMT)   Today's news of a $98 a year subscription and free delivery service to compete with Amazon.  WMT is surging ahead around  $147 a share today.  It seems that Walmart has solidified it's position in this Corona world and may be stepping up to the challenges that Amazon presents.

The conundrum of the stocks and my view today

 Stock Talk

I always question the rationality of the often irrational stock market.  Today, I will offer a few opinions on stocks I am watching,  but definitely not advice. I don't do that here.

Inovio:  It's no secret I've been watching this INO.  I think the Covid 19 vaccine they call INO 4800 has several merits as so far demonstrated in preliminary animal and human Phase 1 clinical trial testing. I've already posted on these pros and cons.

Stock wise, the share level has been slammed pretty hard down to 12  range. Looking at the chart, I am staying with "just some" shares of INO. I'll reserve judgement on this until the next decision point comes on vaccine potential. The pipeline of cancer treatments is there but for now , it's all about Inovio's progress on the Covid 19 vaccine.  With Inovio, it feels like a waiting for Godot situation. Such a conundrum. My way is a cautious watchful "some not too much" position.

Apple:  One share of Apple at $500 will soon be 4 shares of Apple at $125. A catalyst may be coming after the split called Apple-Fi. This is rumored as plans to deploy cell phone and internet service through satellites. Could this be the next "big bang" in tech?  Sometimes after the split, a stock will fade some.  Buy 2 shares of Apple now or wait?

That is a conundrum question. I'd say if the first, be ready to accept the second and wait for the next catalyst.

Yamana Gold:  I took a quick look at Yamana Gold (AUY).  It may be a some stock for our times. At the current $5 to $6 range it is looking interesting in these tumultuous times.

It's all about Apple - and "Apple - Fi" - Is this the next "big bang" in Tech?

 Stock Talk

Today, it seems like Apple (AAPL) stock is taking the air out of other stocks.  I will offer a two reasons why I suspect so. We all know that the market cap of Apple and Tesla are larger than some countries entire GDP.  As of this post AAPL is trading about $490 a share. One reason...

"Apple on Thursday announced in its fiscal third-quarter earnings that the Board of Directors has approved a four-for-one stock split. ... The shares will be distributed to shareholders at the close of business on August 24, and trading will begin on a split-adjusted basis on August 31.Jul 30, 2020"

Here is another reason - APPLE-Fi

A satellite-based Internet service from Apple. Rumored for some time as the "cable industry killer," Apple Fi is expected to compete with 5G cellular service at  $5 per month.

It does seem like that could be a boon for Apple and a bust for many traditional carriers that use cell towers and perhaps even cable.

The thing is that Apple stock is now almost $500 a share!  To that I say maybe the little people (like moi) are considering buying a few shares and then take part in the 4 for 1 stock split. A huge boon for a company that is already huge ?  Is that double huge or like a big bang coming in tech.

Yamana Gold (AUY) - a stock to watch

Stock Talk

With monetary easing all over the globe, gold has had a nice run.  Some pundits will say it's bound to go higher whereas others will say it's a crowded play at the moment and indeed is due for a correction. Many will agree that regardless of the near term fluctuations, the longer view trend is higher.  However, rather than buying gold, some prefer to invest in shares of a Gold miner.  One such miner I will say to watch is Yamana gold (AUY).

From the Yamana website:

"Yamana Gold is a Canadian-based precious metals producer with significant gold and silver production, development stage properties, exploration properties, and land positions throughout the Americas, including Canada, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. Yamana plans to continue to build on this base through expansion and optimization initiatives at existing operating mines, development of new mines, the advancement of its exploration properties and, at times, by targeting other consolidation opportunities with a primary focus in the Americas. In 2020, we expect to deliver production of 786,000 ounces of gold and 10.25 million ounces of silver. On a gold equivalent basis, we expect to produce 890,000 ounces (gold plus silver at a ratio of approximately 98.85:1). 2020 operational forecasts are presented in the table below:"
